Fabien Galthié has named an experimental French side to face Argentina in Mendoza on Saturday. Baptiste Serin has been appointed captain, and Antoine Frisch will make his international debut.
The team announced for the first of two Tests against Los Pumas, features eight uncapped players in the matchday 23, including six in the starting XV. Toulon scrum-half Serin, with 44 caps to his name, will lead the side in what will be his second time as captain, having previously led France against Italy in 2020.
Among the debutants, former Munster centre Antoine Frisch will partner Émilien Gailleton in midfield. Frisch, who recently signed with Toulon for the upcoming season, earned his call-up after an impressive two-year stint in Ireland, which included helping Munster to the United Rugby Championship title in 2023.

Other newcomers in the starting lineup include Théo Attissogbe and Lester Etien on the wings, Oscar Jegou at openside flanker, Jordan Joseph at number eight, and Hugo Auradou in the second row. La Rochelle prop Georges-Henri Colombe and Stade Français fullback Léo Barré, both with two caps, are the only players in the starting XV who featured in France’s last Six Nations match against England.
The bench also features two potential debutants in Lyon lock Mickaël Guillard and Montpellier flanker Lenni Nouchi. Nouchi, who captained France to the U20 World Championship title last year, was a late addition to the starting XV, replacing the injured Judicaël Cancoriet.
Galthié, facing his 50th Test as France’s head coach, emphasized the importance of this tour for player development. “A tour is a growth accelerator,” he said. “I’m willing to bet that five or six players will be ‘premium’ for future years. I’m sure we have some gems here.”
This match marks the beginning of France’s summer tour, which includes two Tests against Argentina and a warm-up game against a World XV side in Bilbao on June 22. The French team will be looking to extend their winning streak against Argentina to five matches, their best run against Los Pumas in the 21st century.
For Frisch, this call-up represents a significant milestone in his career. After a circuitous route to the top, including a stint with Emerging Ireland, the 28-year-old centre now has the opportunity to cement his place in the French setup ahead of future international competitions.
As France looks to build depth and uncover new talent, this young and relatively inexperienced side will face a stern test against an Argentina team eager to impress under new head coach Felipe Contepomi. The match kicks off at 21:00 local time (01:00 GMT) at the Estadio Malvinas Argentinas in Mendoza.
